What we count
Each time one of our apps is opened, we add 1 to that app's count. That tells us which apps students use at home and which ones to improve next. We don't collect anything else.
What is sent when an app opens
- Which app it was, by its address on this site (for example
/Melody Reader/). - The website the visit came from, such as this home page or a Google Site. We send only the site's address, never the rest of the link.
- The screen width, so we can tell phones from computers.
What is never sent
- No names, accounts or logins.
- Nothing you make or type: no songs, melodies, words, scores or lesson links.
- No cookies and no ID of any kind. Nothing is saved on your device to recognize you.
Who does the counting
The counts are kept by GoatCounter, a small open-source counter built for privacy. It keeps totals, not records of people. From each visit it notes the type of browser, the operating system and a rough location (country or state), and saves them only as totals. It never saves IP addresses. So that a reload isn't counted twice, it matches repeat visits for up to 8 hours, in memory only, and then forgets them.
GoatCounter's own privacy policy has the full details.
Not counted
- If your browser has Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control turned on, nothing is sent at all.
- School computers often block the counter. That's fine: the apps work the same either way.
